Star Wars Fanfiction Challenge Community:

astromech_tech

The mission of this community is to issue weekly and monthly fanfiction challenges for writers active in the Star Wars Universe.

The main goal of this community is to improve both fanfiction and fanfiction plots through enjoyable reading, praise, constructive criticism, and general writing tips. Constructive criticism is always welcome as long as it remains constructive and does not deteriorate into flaming. Reviewers are reminded that fanfiction often contains a small part of the Author locked within it, and it should be treated as such.

The community includes point systems and affiliations to add a small bit of competition to the mix.

The first Weekly Challenge is up and membership is open to everyone.

------

It's for serious writers, so people who don't know how to type or people who write Mary Sues should stay away. (and just because it's 'serious' doesn't mean that it's humorless. Big difference) The purpose is to a) promote Star Wars fanfiction and b) improve written fanfiction through concrit and helpful tips.

I'd really appreciate it if you would at least go and look around a bit. Check out the user info and see if maybe it's your kind of place.

Thanks,

A New Forum for SW Discussion [21 Jan 2005|01:20pm]

Greetings!
I know this might sound a bit off topic, but it isn't. So continue reading.
I have created a new community called heated_debate. The purpose of this community is to allow a place for people to come debate and discuss whatever they want in whatever manner they see fit without having to worry about either being banned by a childish moderator or being censored by others.
This whole thing got started when I was banned from almost every Star Wars community for Disagreeing with a moderator. Not for breaking rules. Not for trolling. Simply for having a different opinion about George Lucas.
I am sick of this crap.
I have had tons of friends banned from anime, religion, trek, and just about every other kind of community.
In heated_debate I hope to get as many fellow nerds and thinkers together as possible so we can discuss subjects of Star Wars, both past and present, without people getting blocked or banned for their opinions. I want to be able to share pics and polls and debate old vs. new without getting censored. I know I do not have a whole lot of topics up right now, but I am still trying to get people to come join.
Anyway, please join if you are interested. I would love to get some star wars, anime, sci-fi, or generally nerdish threads up and running.

Suite101.com - HUB OF NONSENSE. No where else on the planet --- except maybe Theforce.net -- will you find such great 'musings' about Star Wars!!

Read .... Paul F. McDonald's essay on Episode II: Attack of the Clones:

"When All The Galaxy Was Young"

McDonald: When [Anakin] goes to rescue his mother - an action that will eventually lead him into committing a revenge massacre - he dives down to the desert below, his black cloak billowing in the wind. The symbolism should be obvious to those raised in the Occidental tradition. Anakin is literally falling out of heaven.

Oh yes, clearly! Lucas would never have somebody jump off a cliff without meaning it to 'obviously' symbolize Milton's Paradise Lost. Clearly. PS: And why say Western when you can say Occidental.

MD: Curiously, no critic has brought this up in their review.

LOL! Curiously.

MD (on the mythology of SW: Episode II): The origins of the stormtroopers is finally expounded upon. And who would have ever thought the forbidding Darth Vader once merrily frolicked with his young lover in the fields of Naboo after enjoying a picnic?

Indeed, who would. :-(

MD: Allusions to classical myth abound. Anakin Skywalker is very much like a post-modern Osiris, being continually dismembered and resurrected. Padme Amidala is every bit as beautiful as Helen of Troy, a woman who might prompt Christopher Marlowe to once again ask, "Is this the face that launched a thousand ships,/ And burned the topless towers of Ilium?" The slaughter of the Tuskens is evocative of divine Old Testament wrath.

The mixed metaphor 'splain there kills me!

CHUD.com's 'splaining !! [29 Sep 2003|12:12am]

CHUD.com's review of the AOTC dvd includes some Lucasplaining with just a hint of Lucaspologizing....

Most of the review is standard standard "It's brilliant" stuff, but the author takes some time to personally address the "criticisms" of AOTC. He sounds mightly defensive in his comments....

Some Howlers:

On the love story:

CHUD: Because he painted himself into a corner and only had a 2 hour film to progress the love story in, Lucas had to do it in fast-forward or the rest of the plot (which is quite important) would have been hurt. So, instead of giving us a "boring" 2 hour love story he told us in flashes and imagery. The scenes intentionally consist of romantic cinema cliches: They discuss love over meals, they play in a field, they roll around in the grass, they sit in front of a romantic fireplace. And everytime we see them together we can tell that there has already been a progression in their relationship. It's sublime and implied.

I see, they were "intentional" romantic cliches! Because, sorry sweetheart, two hours just isn't enough time for anything else.

CHUD (On Hayden's acting): Anakin's character in Clones is that of an impetuous 20 year old. He's designed to whine and he's supposed to make you want to slap the hell out of him at times. I keep seeing comments like "stitled acting" and "high school quality acting" without definition of exactly what it is about his performance that is worthy of such bitter scorn. I found myself buying into his character very early on. His delivery of the line "... Investigation is implied in our mandate" is spot-on."

"Guys, seriously, he did ONE line really really well!!"

CHUD: Those who are blasting his acting are in fact actually showing their disgust for Anakin, not Hayden.

Hm, that makes sense .. Oh WAIT, we're not supposed to HATE Anakin!
